A story on PROP Food’s Keeping Families in Their Homes campaign, which appeared in the Eden Prairie Local News (EPLN) on Nov. 29, has inspired a matching donation from Scheels.

After reading the article about the unprecedented rise in families needing emergency support to remain housed, Lauren Andrist, the marketing lead at Scheels in Eden Prairie Center, contacted PROP and offered an additional matching gift.

PROP announced the gift in a media release on Friday

“We saw the incredible story in EPLN of PROP’s campaign to help families stay housed, and one couple’s generous matching gift, and wanted to help with fundraising efforts for this critical campaign,” Andrist said.

This week, Scheels presented PROP Food with a check for $25,000.

PROP Executive Director Jenifer Loon expressed gratitude for Scheels’ “unexpected and very generous” matching gift.

“Especially this year, when we are seeing such an uptick in the number of families requesting critical assistance to remain in their homes and meet their nutritional needs, this gift will go a long way toward PROP helping to meet those needs,” Loon said. “Having a community partner like Scheels step up to help us fulfill our mission in such a special way just warms our hearts.”

Thanks to Scheels and an anonymous local couple, every donation made to PROP during December will be matched up to $50,000, the press release stated.

The gift match ends at midnight on Dec. 31.
