The opening night performance on Nov. 11 of “Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas!” at the Children’s Theatre Company (CTC) was nothing short of spectacular – instantly securing its place as a personal favorite within the opening moments.

From the enchanting costumes and flawless choreography to the stellar cast, mesmerizing music, and meticulously designed set, every element blended seamlessly to create an unforgettable experience. Having attended numerous Broadway shows, including the renowned “Chicago” in New York City, I can confidently say that this rendition stands out in my memory.

Since its premiere in 1994, CTC has staged this production 11 times, making it a hotly-anticipated tradition and showcasing its impeccable craftsmanship. The connection between the performers was palpable, reflecting their unwavering commitment to delivering a stellar performance. The adaptation of the beloved story was masterfully executed, with powerful singers infusing the narrative with emotion, captivating the all-ages-filled audience.

It’s impossible to overlook the visual extravaganza provided by the vibrant set and expert lighting, which transform the stage into Whoville, one of the happiest places on Earth. However, Elsa Dungan-Hawks’s outstanding performance as Cindy-Lou Who was the true showstopper. A true triple threat, she showcased exceptional singing, dancing, and acting skills, elevating the character to new heights. Her talent added a layer of magic to the evening, leaving the audience in awe.

The show’s infectious energy, coupled with lively instruments and captivating sounds, had the entire audience singing and bopping along, creating a joyful atmosphere that lingered even after leaving the theater. The songs were so delightful that they left a lasting impression, prompting the thought of making this heartwarming show a cherished tradition for years to come.

Adding to the charm, the crowd’s favorite moment occurred when Young Max, brilliantly played by child actor Audrey Mojica, received pies on stage, skillfully thrown by the Grinch in the audience. This unexpected and thrilling interaction added an extra layer of excitement, having everyone cheering and actively engaged.

In every glittering detail, “Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas!” at CTC unfolds as a magical tapestry of talent and joy that offers an unforgettable experience for all ages. Don’t miss the chance to immerse yourself in this heartwarming holiday spectacle; secure your tickets and embrace the festive magic before the curtains fall on Jan. 7, 2024.
