He was born to parents Emmett and Ilene on March 26, 1946, in Sioux City, Iowa. Ken will be remembered for his affinity for connecting with those he knew and strangers alike. He had a witty sense of humor and a knack for lightening the mood, often with a timely pun.

After graduating from Morningside College in 1968, he moved to Minnesota and began his career at the Hennepin County Home School youth correctional facility. It is there where he met Thelma, his loving wife of more than 48 years, and where he would stay until retiring at the age of 61. Devoted to his work, Ken was well-loved and respected. He was sought out by colleagues for his humility, thoughtfulness and calm. He provided joy to those around him with practical jokes, regular care packages and mindful conversation starters.

After being diagnosed with diabetes as a young adult, Ken sustained an impressively spirited attitude throughout his life. He never felt sorry for himself, even throughout his later years when the consequences of the disease became progressively more significant and ultimately caused his body to fail.

Ken is survived by his wife, Thelma Nordos Fricke; son, Lars (Brooke) Fricke; daughter, Erica Fricke; sister, Elaine (Ken) Kalkes; granddaughters Hazel, Elin, and Wilhelmine; and many other relatives and friends.

The memorial service for Ken will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 3, at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, 13600 Technology Drive, Eden Prairie, with visitation starting at 10 a.m. Flowers are welcome, or memorials can be directed to the American Diabetes Association.

Arrangements are being handled by Huber Funeral & Cremation Services Eden Prairie Chapel (952-949-4970).
