Our hearts are heavy as we announce the passing of Karen A. Olsen, 81, on Friday, Jan. 21.

Olsen graduated in 1958 from Elcho High School. She then earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a master’s degree in industrial psychology from the University of Minnesota.
Olsen began her profession in 1963 at General Mills in the personnel department. Later, she was a principal consultant and partner of Labor Relations Associates. She was considered an early female leader in industrial relations in Minnesota and related professional organizations.
For those who knew her personally, she was known for her love of nature, animals, music, friends, and family. She would enjoy mushroom hunting or walks in the woods. Her floral gardens were beautiful, admired, and grand.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frieda Schoeneck Olsen and Edward Olsen, loving aunts, uncles and cousins, and adored cats Chessie and Dina (named after her maternal grandmother).
Survived by her sister DeeAnn Olsen, “little sis” and dear friend Lisa (Ron) Kottke, and many dear cousins and devoted friends.
Funeral services will be at noon Thursday, Jan. 27, starting with visitation at 11 a.m., at Washburn-McReavy Hillside Chapel, 2610 19th Ave NE, Minneapolis, followed by lunch.
It is with deep gratitude and thanks to the doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers who provided such comfort to her at Methodist Hospital. Also, the family wants to recognize the compassion shown by the many caregivers and staff at The Waters of Eden Prairie.
Memorials may be sent on her behalf to St John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 610 Broadway St. NE, Minneapolis, MN. 55413.
