If you’ve seen a Minnesota license plate, you know that the state is known as the “Land of 10,000 Lakes.”
Ever wonder just how many of those are in Eden Prairie?
The answer, according to the Parks and Recreation page on the City of Eden Prairie website, is 17.
Since you’re now wondering what exactly those 17 lakes are, we’ve compiled a handy list, alphabetically. You’re welcome.
- Anderson Lakes
- Birch Island Lake
- Bryant Lake
- Duck Lake
- Eden Lake
- Grass Lake
- Lake Idlewild
- McCoy Lake
- Mitchell Lake
- Neill Lake
- Red Rock Lake
- Rice Lake
- Rice Marsh Lake
- Lake Riley
- Round Lake
- Lake Smetana
- Staring Lake
Just where are these lakes? You can find them on the map below.
You probably also noticed that the City of Eden Prairie web page cited “17 lakes and more than 100 ponds.” What’s the difference? The definition of a lake used by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is a body of water over 10 acres. They’ve counted 11,842 total in the state. (“10,000” just sounds better for the slogan.)
